چکیده

C.2 Exchangeable correlation structure Suppose that, among the coordinates of Yi | μ, τi, σ i , a set of variables is exchangeable in the sense that the correlation matrix C remains unchanged under any permutation of these variables. In this case, the following proposition shows that an optimal D based on the correlation matrix C = V−1/2ΣV−1/2 has equal diagonal elements at the exchangeable coordinates.

Covariance Decompositions for Accurate Computation in Bayesian Scale-Usage Models

A common modeling approach for data collected on discrete scales is to introduce continuous latent variables, treated as missing data, that are linked to the observations via a censoring mechanism. Bayesian approaches typically use data augmentation within a Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithm that simplifies analysis by avoiding direct evaluation of the likelihood. However, if not carefu...

Computational Aspects Related to Inference in Gaussian Graphical Models With the G-Wishart Prior

We describe a comprehensive framework for performing Bayesian inference for Gaussian graphical models based on the G-Wishart prior with a special focus on efficiently including nondecomposable graphs in the model space. We develop a new approximation method to the normalizing constant of a G-Wishart distribution based on the Laplace approximation. We review recent developments in stochastic sea...

A full-scale approximation of covariance functions for large spatial data sets

Gaussian process models have been widely used in spatial statistics but face tremendous computational challenges for very large data sets. The model fitting and spatial prediction of such models typically require O(n) operations for a data set of size n. Various approximations of the covariance functions have been introduced to reduce the computational cost. However, most existing approximation...

Understanding GPU Programming for Statistical Computation: Studies in Massively Parallel Massive Mixtures.

This article describes advances in statistical computation for large-scale data analysis in structured Bayesian mixture models via graphics processing unit (GPU) programming. The developments are partly motivated by computational challenges arising in fitting models of increasing heterogeneity to increasingly large datasets. An example context concerns common biological studies using high-throu...

Tapered Covariance: Bayesian Estimation and Asymptotics

The method of maximum tapered likelihood has been proposed as a way to quickly estimate covariance parameters for stationary Gaussian random fields. We show that under a useful asymptotic regime, maximum tapered likelihood estimators are consistent and asymptotically normal for covariance models in common use. We then formalize the notion of tapered quasi-Bayesian estimators and show that they ...
